Learn more about hand-crafting awesome coffee....

More and more people seem to be getting into coffee - because we're all starting to know that it can be better than pouring boiling water on a sprinkling of freeze dried granules.

There's much to enjoy about the process of learning more, and of making coffee in a more enjoyable way - long before you become a coffee geek (not sure when anyone attains that status if you want it ).

Some of the basics that are worth knowing are:
The flavour of the coffee itself isn't just about the source (or origin) of the beans, though that can matter a lot
The other main things (as far as we understand it so far) are:

the roasting process,

the freshness of the beans since roasting,

the method of making the coffee

the fineness of the grind (what you want depends on the point above)

the quality of the water

the temperature of the water

for espresso, the pressure at which water is pushed through the coffee

for pour-over or drip-filter, allowing the grinds to swell (the bloom) before the main pour,

for cafetiere, the timing of 'the plunge'

the amount of contact time the water has with the coffee overall.

how much water is combined with the amount of grinds you have used.

the way you like your milk, or none.

There's probably even more that we don't know about yet.
In an ideal world all of the above are very carefully controlled
and tailored to your taste to make the perfect coffee right for you.

But perhaps start with one thing:
THE GRIND
- one grind does not fit all......
